Fishermen and farmers of the Mercosur

The activities of small-scale and artisanal fisheries and of household agriculture are both very different and quite similar. Indeed, both comunities share know-how, ways of living and challenges. The fishermen and their fellow farmers of the South American trading bloc (Mercosur) gathered in the South of Chile to exchange experiences and reinforce their alliance. Their objective is clearly load together on regional policies and improve their living conditions. The Encounter was organized by  the World Forum of Fish Harvesters and Fish Workers along with Contag -Brasil and Coprofam (Coordinadora de Productores Familiares del Mercosur). Organizations from Brasil, Bolivia, Peru, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Colombia and Chile were represented. On this occasion, Almedio, with the support of the Charles Léopold Mayer Foundation, realised 30 interviews, that are currently being published in a book meant to support and promote the fight of those fishermen and farmers from the South of the planet.
