Systematization of the International summer university "Changing lanes", Poitiers 2010

The fourth edition of the International summer university, International Institute of Research, Policy of Civilization was held in Poitiers from 27 to 30 September 2010. After San Juan de Angély in 2007 (Beyond sustainable development: 20 years after the Brundtland report), Niort in 2008 (Global governance and "New idéal  civilisationnel: emergence of a new object"), Poitiers in 2009 (The seven challenges for a policy of civilization), the 2010 edition want to work beyond the regular concept of present and explore the clues to "change lanes." This summer university has been developed under the International Research Institute, a policy of civilization - IIRPC, chaired by Edgar Morin and directed by Alfredo Pena-Vega.

About fifty participants from 24 different countries, went through the stands of the four plenary sessions, five reflective circles and a panel discussion on the future of the Mediterranean. In all, about 300 participants attended and actively participated in these various group work sessions organized to address the five planetary challenges  in seven different locations in the city of Poitiers. Namely: the challenge of a policy of humanity, the challenge of political/ethics relations, environmental challenge, water and biodiversity, the challenge of the mother earth and the challenges of knowledge and complexity.

ALMEDIO team has been asked to systematize the reflective circles of the International summer university and coordinates the work of systematization. Before, during and after the meeting, in permanent bond with the organizers, in particular with the support teams of Space Mendès France, the work was organized in four main areas:

1. The formation of teams have allowed to have in situ a team of students trained in the techniques and methods to systematize experiences and strengthen the partnership with the University of Poitiers. This team of students were reinforced by participants who knew the work items.

2. The coordination of all the systematization allowed to keep a methodological thread from start to finish. Consisted of valuing the cross-reading work in progress, through regular meetings to coordinate all the speakers and organizers of the circles. That allowed, to feed the reflection in a circle with the ideas expressed in the other circles and to allow greater openness of the work.

3. The synthesis of the working sessions of the 5 circles and reflective panel on the Mediterranean relief contributions made by participants on what is at stake in terms of the five key challenges identified in advance. The synthesis of reflective circles resulted in: the main proceedings and challenges identified, proposals for concrete actions arising. The synthesis of reflective circles serve to fuel the outcome of the meeting or possible future action plan to strengthen the work of the European summer university and anticipate possible consequences.

4. Cross-sectional analysis and conclusions of the Forum. At the end of the encounter, the ALMEDIO team proposed to the organizers cross-sectional analysis of all the discussions in order to achieve the strategic priorities of the meeting. This work resulted in a two-page document that can be found in this report. The work of cross-sectional analysis contributed in particular to highlight the main issues placed by the participants to this tenth summer university, but also to summarize elements of concrete proposals.

5. All the work resulted in a document, true memory of the work.
